ROMhacking.net online patcher

For years the practical answer to patch this online was a box hosted on ROMhacking.net. That box was a build of the same Rom Patcher JS family. The archive of the page shows v2.8.1. I am not going to call that the last version anyone ran. It is the version the archive captured. The live domain, from 2024, kept the news posts and sent the database and the files toward the Internet Archive. The patcher page itself does not answer anymore.

What you do now depends on the file you already have. If you downloaded a patch from an author, you do not need the old website to apply it. IPS, BPS, UPS, PPF, APS, and RUP were the formats that hosted page listed, and this site's engine still applies them, plus xdelta. If you needed the site because the patch was attached to a database entry, the archive is the place to look up the entry, not a revived applicator. I link the archive as the record of the shutdown, and I link the engine repository as the code.

v2.8.1 is older than the secondary-decompressor work. An xdelta that fails there with a missing decompressor can succeed on the commit this site pins. That is the migration, not a new file format. Creator mode existed on the hosted tool too. It was applying and creating the formats that build implemented in that era. I would not promise EBP or Star Rod behavior from a v2.8.1 memory.

Related pages: the Rom Patcher JS guide, which is the current map, and the error index if the message you remember is a checksum. This page exists so the old name resolves to a status, not to a dead embed.

Questions

Can I still open the old patcher URL?

The live site no longer serves that tool. Use an archived copy only to read what it was. Apply patches in a current engine.

Was it a different program from Rom Patcher JS?

It was a hosted build of that engine. The version label was behind the commit this site runs.
