Is this ROM patcher safe?

The engine on this site runs in your browser. The files you pick are read locally and the output is downloaded locally. I do not run a server that receives the ROM. That is the property that makes the browser path calmer than an installer: there is no extra program with permission to start at login. It is not a promise that the patch you downloaded is kind. A patch is code changes to a game. Apply one you got from the author, not from a reupload with a surprise exe beside it.

APKs are the sharp edge of the same search. UniPatcher has a Play listing and a GPL repository I can name. An APK from a forum thread named ROM patcher pro does not. Symbian RomPatcher+ is a dead phone tool from another decade and another product. I mention it so the name does not leak into an Android download. The safety page for Windows installers is the SmartScreen note: unsigned is not the same as malicious, and an unrelated bundle is not the project.

Hashes answer a narrower question. If the SHA-1 matches the base on the FireRed page, you have that dump. If the BPS source CRC passes, the author hashed that file. Neither test reads the patch for a payload. I do not claim to have scanned patches. Local processing means the bytes stay on the machine. It does not mean I reviewed the hack.

Questions

Does the browser upload my ROM?

Not this one. The file is read in the page and the result is a download. An extension or another site can behave differently.

Is a checksum a virus scan?

No. It tells you whether the file matches a published hash. It does not describe what the patch changes.
